Our global economy has dramatically changed and in order to be effective participants, our young people must be taught to think critically with respect to their finances, and to choose to make responsible decisions as savers, investors, consumers and members of the workforce. FIS Group’s Financial Literacy Initiative is designed to provide an engaging and effective pathway towards financial literacy and the development of broader skills that are essential for successful participation in the global economy.
In 2006, FIS Group launched the FIS Group Financial Literacy Program. The current pilot school is the Russell Byers Chart School in Philadelphia. The program is designed to help increase the financial literacy of students in low income areas and incorporates an instinctive award and incentive system that reinforces the value of diligence, budgeting, saving, and investing. Funding for the program is provided by FIS Group's 501 C-3 affiliate, A Good Measure Foundation.
The program's curriculum offers middle school students opportunities to learn basic concepts such as the roles of money and various financial institutions, budgeting, consumption, saving, investing and wealth accumulation. Over a four-year period, the program's classroom lessons are taught at increasing levels of complexity and are reinforced through active learning experiences, transaction simulations and role-playing.
